The Bates College Department of English seeks to hire a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor to begin fall 2016, whose scholarly focus is the study of Early Modern Literature and Culture, broadly conceived. We welcome applications from candidates whose areas of specialization might encompass interdisciplinary, theoretical, historical, and comparative approaches, including research in the fields of science and technology studies, race and ethnicity, gender and sexuality, and the global outreach of early modern literature.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory and advanced courses on Early Modern Literature, including Shakespeare and Non-dramatic prose and poetry. The teaching load is five courses, distributed over two 12-week semesters and one five-week spring term. By the time of appointment, candidates should have a Ph.D. completed–or nearly complete–and significant relevant teaching experience, as well as an active and dynamic research agenda.
